Murder to Measure Online Mystery Events

Murder to Measure was formed in 2005, when the world-wide web was very much in its infancy, and no-one could foresee a circumstance when restaurants and pubs woudl be closed due to a global pandemic. All that changed, of course in 2020, and at Murder to Measure we have been working hard to come up with a murder mystery format that would allow all of us, performers and guests alike to stay safely at home, whilst still enjoying some murderous interaction over a devious plot or two. We therefore plan to host a number of online murder mystery events using the Zoom platform, which offers a number of advantages over similar services, and can allow over 100 guests to watch our experienced performers act out a murder mystery story live. Getting things right, including the technology to take bookings etc has been a huge challenge, so we hope that once people can venture out again, we will continue to be able to offer these events, and we will continue to develop new plots suitable for the online environment.

Online mystery Frequently asked questions

How do I take part?

Our online murder mysteries are hosted by Zoom, an online video-conferencing platform which is available free for all computers and smartphones. In order to join in, you can click on the payment link above and make payment which will register you for the event and email you an invitation which includes instructions on how to download the package.

How many people can take part? Can I share my ticket?

When you buy a ticket to the event, your invitation is specific to the Zoom account corresponding to the email address that you provided when you signed up. You can have as many people as you wish watching on your device, but please do not share your invite with other family groups, as this should not work and may prevent you watching. If you have multiple Zoom accounts (perhaps one for family and one for work), make sure that you are watching on the account you used to sign up for the event.

I have technical problems - can you help?

We have tested the suitability of the Zoom platform, but as we don't host the software, we don't profess to be experts and most problems will be beyond our control. As with many computer-related problems, turning your device off and on can sometimes get things working, so we recommend that yuo log into the session in good time so you can check everything is set up correctly. You should see a countdown video playing from about 7.30pm, which should give you some reassurance that things are working. When a show is on, we are busy working the technology, so cannot take 'phone calls or answer emails. If technical problems persist which means that you cannot view the show, please contact us, and once we check the attendance list, we will provide a refund for you.

Will I be seen and/or heard by other guests?

Not if you dont want to be. If you want to be seen by other viewers, perhaps to ask a question, you can "raise your hand" using the button in the Zoom client, which allows the host to unmute your microphone and reveal your video so you can ask your question. The host will let you know when questions can be accepted.

How long does the show last? Can I take a break?

The show is designed to last about 2 hours, and is played live, so may be slightly longer or shorter, depending on the amount of interaction from the guests. There will be a couple of breaks to allow you to take a comfort break or recharge your glasses.

How do I solve the murder? Is there a prize?

The plot is designed to be solveable - if you watch and listen attentively, you should be able to narrow down th elist of suspects until you are left with the identity of the murderer. You can get more details here. You will ahve an opportunity to vote on the identity of the murderer at the end of the event, but unfortunately the nature of the event is we cannot offer prizes for online events - just bask in the glory of a job well done!
