It is the annual Christmas Fayre in aid of church funds, and local do-gooder Tom Bowler is keen to fill the hall with festive spirit. This year, however, the rivalry among the Christmas produce competition is more intense than usual, fuelled by the presence of a new-comer from "that there London", who has entered every single category.
Where is his talented daughter who looks set to impress the judges with her nativity painting, and just what has the new vicar been doing beating the bounds?
Curtains look set to twitch and tongues to wag as the competition heats up.
Note that this a Christmas version of our popular summer Fete Worse Than Death, which would also be suitable for an event held around harvest time.
