It is 1566 and wedding celebrations are underway at a splendid manor. Our new bride and groom, however, are distracted by a proposed journey to the New World and a possible visit by the Queen herself. In order to proceed with the planning, he has invited his close friends and a troupe of actors to discuss the celebration over dinner – although it soon becomes apparent that not everyone shares his views on how the event should proceed.

It is the maiden voyage of the Caribbean Queen, sailing from Bristol to the Caribbean via Florida for a month-long luxury cruise over the Autumn. The ship, built in Egypt, has had many teething problems, and a week into the journey, it is already behind schedule. In order to please the passengers, Captain Abel Stable has arranged a gala dinner, and promised that the ship will make up time. This doesn't please the crew, who are already working flat out, and only goes a small way towards assuaging the customer complaints.
