Our Various Murder Mystery Formats Explained
What We Supply
Unless requested differently, Murder to Measure will supply the following for each murder mystery:
- A tailored scenario, and instructions for all participants,
- Clue sheets and writing materials,
- All props associated directly with the performance,
- Prize and certificate for the best detective - and usually something similar for the daftest answer!
We can also supply performers, costume, catering, venues, advertising and much more - just ask
A murder mystery can be requested for any venue, any number of participants and for any reason. This could be a special dinner, a party or a full weekend. We take all of these factors into account when producing our scenarios, which are suitable for:
- Celebration parties and dinners, including birthday parties, stag and hen events, Christmas and Halloween parties,
- Team building events - we love to create characters to suit your co-workers and competitors,
- Funding raising,
- Teenage parties,
- Residential weekends.
Specific considerations for each type of events can be viewed by clicking on the links above or in the left hand navigation pane.
You can get an idea of how our scenarios are run by selecting the typical running order link. In addition to the above, Murder to Measure can provide much more, tailored to specific requirements. Typical formats include:
Fully performed murder mysteries
This is the full monty. The organiser usually provides the venue, catering and publicity, but Murder To Measure provides everything else. This includes the scenario and costumed actors, who then interact with all of the guests for the duration of the event. This format is suitable for all groups, and always results in a great deal of hilarity - our actors are certainly not shy.
Murder mystery with you as the suspect
This is a very popular option, as it minimizes the cost of the event and is particularly suited to groups of friends, clubs and societies. This is often the format chosen by fund raising organisations who can rustle up eager volunteers.
The organising group provides the performers and a Murder to Measure representative either meets them or gets information about their character. A scenario is then written which takes the performers' abilities and interests into account. There is no script to learn, but each volunteer is assigned a character and is given a set of cue cards to be used throughout the event. Murder to Measure also provides a master of ceremonies(MC)/detective to ensure that everything runs as planned. It is usual in this case that only the MC knows who the murderer is - so the volunteers can also guess at the murderer and motive.
Do it yourself
This is basically as above, but Murder To Measure does not provide a host for the event. This is best suited to groups who have hosted a murder mystery event before. As with all formats, the scope of what is to be provided will be agreed with the organiser.
Clues and Puzzles
When the age or number of participants makes fully acting out a scenario impractical, or if you would prefer something a bit more sedate yet still chalenging, we can create a mystery that is solved by examining clues and puzzles. These may be solved in teams or as individuals, and are highly suited to mysteries for schools, team-building or kids' parties. The nature and complexity of the clues is tailored to the event and the abilities of the guests
Something a Little Different
Why not include a scavenger or treasure hunt with your scenario, or include forensic examinations or detailed suspect questioning? How about skipping straight to the trial of the suspect? We have even incorporated quizzes, karaoke and dance competitions into our scenarios, and are used to organising team-building exercises, so if you have a particular interest in mind, just ask.
